2010-11 Hunting, Trapping Season Dates Summary


Some wildlife management areas and national wildlife refuges require hunters to draw a permit before hunting. Permit applications are available at www.agfc.com or your local regional office June 1-July 1.

Deer
   Archery Statewide: Oct. 1-Feb. 28

   Muzzleloader
      Deer zones 1, 1A, 2, 3, 4A, 5A, 6, 6A, 7, 8, 8A, 10, 11,
14 and 15: Oct. 16-24 and Dec. 18-20
      Deer zones 9, 12, 13, 16, 16A and 17: Oct. 16-24 and Dec. 29-31
      Deer zones 4, 4B, 5 and 5B: closed Modern gun
      Deer zones 1, 1A, 2, 3, 6, 6A, 7, 8, 8A, 10 and 11: Nov. 13-Dec. 5
      Deer zone 4: Nov. 13-14
      Deer zone 5: Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 20-21
      Deer zones 4B and 5B: Nov. 13-21
      Deer zones 4A, 5A, 14 and 15: Nov. 13-Dec. 12
      Deer zones 9, 12 and 13: Nov. 13-Dec. 19
      Deer zones 16, 16A and 17: Nov. 13-Dec. 24
   Christmas holiday modern gun deer hunt

   Public Land
      Buffalo National River WMA and Gene Rush WMA; Elk Compartments 1, 2, 3, and 4: Sept. 20-24 and Dec. 6-10 (Permit required)
   Private Land
      Private Land Elk Management Zone (Boone, Carroll, Madison, and Searcy counties; Excludes Boxley Valley): Dec. 6-10 (Permit required)

   Statewide: Nov. 1-Feb. 6

Rabbit
   Statewide: Sept. 1-Feb. 28

Squirrel
   Statewide: May 15-Feb. 28

Crow
   Statewide: Sept. 4-Feb. 20. (Thursday-Monday hunting only)

Furbearers
   Furbearer trapping (other than coyote, beaver, muskrat, nutria):
sunrise, Nov. 13-sunset, Feb. 28
   Coyote trapping: sunrise, Aug. 1-sunset, March 31
   Beaver, muskrat, nutria trapping: sunrise, Nov. 13-sunset, March 31
   
   Gray fox, mink, opossum, red fox, striped skunk hunting:
sunrise, Sept.1-sunset, Feb. 28
   Raccoon day or night hunting: sunrise, Sept.1-sunset, March 31
   
   Raccoon night hunting: sunset, July 1-sunrise, Aug. 31

   Bobcat hunting: sunrise, Oct. 1- sunset, Feb. 28 and from the first day of 2010 spring turkey season through Feb. 28.

   Coyote hunting: sunrise, July 1- sunset, Feb. 28 and from the first day of 2010 spring turkey season through Feb. 28.

   River otter hunting: sunrise, Nov. 13-sunset, Feb. 28

   Muskrat, nutria, beaver hunting: sunrise, Sept. 1-sunset, March 31

its too bad they want change the date, so it doesn't start the same day as deer season.

It's hard to please everyone when the AGFC tries to micro-manage the deer herd here in the state.

I'd much prefer they pay attention to what Mississippi has done with their zoning and antler requirements.
It would make it much easier to be assured your in the right zone and know for sure that buck your trying to
kill at 400 yards is legal to begin with....rather than shoot, ground check it and leave it lay cause your guessing was wrong. Roll Eyes
