I just skimmed through it Travis and every trapper should read it. Crazy ban.

(a)Prohibited acts.—

It shall be unlawful for any person—

(1)to import, export, deliver, carry, or transport by any means whatever, in interstate commerce, any steel-jaw leghold trap or Conibear trap; or

(2)to sell, receive, acquire, or purchase any steel-jaw leghold trap or Conibear trap that was delivered, carried, or transported in violation of paragraph (1).

(b)Penalties.—

Whoever knowingly violates subsection (a) shall, in addition to any other penalty that may be imposed, be subject to the following:

(1)For the first such violation, a civil fine of not more than $500 imposed by the Secretary for each steel-jaw leghold trap or Conibear trap possessed.

(2)For each subsequent violation, a civil fine of not more than $1,000 imposed by the Secretary for each steel-jaw leghold trap or Conibear trap possessed, or imprisonment for not more than 2 years, or both

Every trapper needs to contact their House Representative and insist they vote against this...if not kill it in committee.

Don't be confused, The Bipartisan Sportsman act has nothing to do with HR 5560.  The first is OK, but HR 5560 definitely needs everyone's effort to see that it not be enacted.  The title: "Public Safety and Wildlife Protection Act" is misleading. However the long title tells the content: "To restrict the use of steel-jaw leghold traps and conibear traps on animals in the United States."  Section 4 is titled "Rewards", and reveals that half of the penalties resulting, should this pass, will be paid to the person who turns in the one possessing the traps.  I'm not wanting to start a political discussion, but if you look at the sponsor of this bill, as well as all 22 of the co-sponsors from 9 states and DC, they are all Democrats.

You are right Roy I should have made another thread or clarified. The bipartisan sportsman is good for us, 5560 is definitley not.
There are so many trying to sneak in at times its hard to be aware of all the interconnections of one to the next.
I flipped through congress.gov looking the last few days. Some stuff has no summary so then you have to go down the rabbit hole just to find out what the motive is.

I split this bill out so it wouldn't be confused with the rest.

Thanks wayne, I also appreciate you bringing it to attention on other forums.
I made phone calls/emails as soon as I first read it.
