1  Trapping / General Trapping / Petit Jean State Park on: September 24, 2019, 06:34:59 PM
Here is a very rudimentary view of the new rec hall at Petit Jean State Park.  The multipurpose room will be 25' x 64' (1,600 sq. ft.).  I'm not convinced it will be big enough to allow vendors inside along with tables and chairs to feed people and hold a membership meeting.  The "kitchen" is a catering kitchen so it will be simple with no oven or stove top.  Being new, there is no telling what they will charge to use it.

I would love for the ATA to return to Petit Jean but the ATA must approach it as a business decision.  If it turns out that our needs are met, I will lobby the Arkansas State Parks for a reduced rate.

2  Arkansas Trappers Association / Fall Convention / Re: 2019 Fall Convetion on: September 02, 2019, 10:53:00 AM
I want to urge everyone who is coming to the Fall convention to be collecting items for the auction. The item doesn't have to be trapping related. Any donation is great. Please get a business card or make a note of who donated the item. We want to give them credit for it at the auction.

Explain to them the item will be used to help offset expenses for our educational programs.

Now, get out there and sell, sell, sell.

Thank you!

The ATA will be hosting the NTA SE Regional May 8th and 9th of May 2020 at Garland County Fairgrounds in Hot Springs.

We will need "all hands on deck" starting May 5th through the 10th to set up the demo area, get vendor tables set up, work the gate, work the Ball Toss, organize and collect the fees for campers and clean up after the convention.

Contact me at if you can help and the days you can help. There are a limited number of complimentary admission wristbands. These will be for workers only. Thanks

8  News and Announcements / ATA / Re: NTA 2020 SE Regional on: July 23, 2019, 06:07:29 PM
I would be interested, just have to give me an idea about what that would involve since I have never been to one. Had planned on going to event in Springfield this past week but had to stay in town for a memorial service for life long friend. Anybody willing to post a summary of how the event went & comments on any particular bargains on trapping equipment or trapping educational discussions or new tid bits to try a specific sets ? Also any guesstimate on attendance.

The convention went great.  Plenty of vendors and the demos were top notch.  Mike Fischer's demo was great...right up to when the trap caught his thumb and he cussed.  LOL!  The ATA sold a few shirts and signed up several new members.  Traffic got slow late Saturday so a lot of vendors packed up and left.  Can't really blame them as some had 12 - 14 hours, or more, drive to get back home.

It's always good to see old friends and meet new ones.  There were a lot of kids there so that made the whole thing worth it.

And I want to thank the Arkansas group for showing up.  It was good to see Arkansas represented so well.  Thank you.
9  Trapping / General Trapping / Re: Question about bait regulations... on: July 16, 2019, 07:01:22 AM
Animal matter may not be used as bait within 20 feet of a trap unless it is covered.
Bait must be covered in such a way as to withstand wave action, wind action and other normal environmental conditions that could cause it to become visible.

I take this to mean no animal matter.  A bone would be animal matter.

Since I posted this, the regs have changed and you can now use bleached (viscera free) bone that doesn't have to be covered from above sight.
