2  News and Announcements / Trapper Talk / Re: Language Filter on: March 08, 2013, 10:01:34 PM
I don't know who instigated the language filer but it should be turned off until the BOD can discuss at the spring meeting.  I just tried a very tame word and it was censored.  If the admin would, please let us know who authorized the filter.  Thanks.

Actually it has been part of the forum since it's inception, however it just wasn't used.

I started using it because newcomers and some oldsters apparently haven't taken the time to read the "Trapper Talk Code of Ethics" although they agreed to abide by them when they registered.

That said the filter is there to assist the website admin and moderators in maintaining the high standards set forth in the registration agreement and "Trapper Talk Code of Ethics"...without it a person could spend most of his day reviewing new post for inappropriate content.

Now the filter is rather simple...it consist of a list of *banned* words (whole or in part) that the filter will substitute a given phrase for in place of the *banned* words as it scans the text.  That list of words is subjective at best but the filter is quite objective in it's looking for that particular group of letters and maybe unfortunately there is little fine tuning that can be done to the filter.

Personally I think it should remain in place until the BOD can make a determination of what words should be on the banned list.

Remember that this website is a Family oriented website and the filter helps keep the language cleaned up for all who may read it.
3  News and Announcements / Trapper Talk / FORUM LANGUAGE on: February 06, 2013, 12:05:59 PM
As of late there have been some thread topics on the forum that draw heated and passionate comments.

We certainly understand voiced disapproval for "Nere-Do-Wells" who engage in immoral or illegal acts...but the use of profanity and strong language isn't needed to support your point of view.

IF YOU WOULDN'T SAY IN FRONT OF YOUR MOTHER, WIFE or CHILDREN  DON'T SAY HERE!

Be reminded that our forum code of ethics item #1 specifically addresses profanity and reminds us "This is a Family Site"

We have filters in place to convert such language to "(Excuse My Language)" and we will continue to add to the list of words not allowed.

This list includes those efforts to bypass the filter by misspelling words or using symbols.

If you must interject fowl language into your post, please know you will receive a warning from one of the moderators for the first offense.  A second offense earns you a 30 ban.  A third offense earns you a permanent ban and your account will be deleted.

Thanks for helping this site stay a family site.

6  Arkansas Trappers Association / District News and Events / District Reports in Trapper Predator Caller on: December 27, 2011, 10:18:25 PM
If a District Rep has any info that they would like included in the ATA Editor Report in Trapper Predator Caller, feel free to email Gary Helms at TrapperGWH@aol.com.

Reports are due the 1st of every month and the magazines usually land in people's mailboxes around the 20th or so.

This means that only events that are at least 30 days out have a chance of getting in the magazine before the event date is in the past. For example: if your meeting is on Feb 15th and I send in the info on Feb 1st, people won't get the magazine until after the 15th. You would need to send in that info before Jan 1st so people get the magazine around Jan 25th and have plenty of notice before the Feb 15th meeting.

I usually try to get it in right at the deadline. Getting me the info several days before the 1st would be great.

Gary

8  Arkansas Trappers Association / District News and Events / District Board Moderators on: September 14, 2011, 04:06:50 PM
District Rep's (that I could find accounts for) now have moderator privileges on their districts' board.

They can edit and delete posts and tack posts to the top so they don't get lost. Might be other things they can do too.
9  News and Announcements / Trapper Talk / New Board: District News and Events on: September 13, 2011, 11:20:41 PM
A new board has been added for District Info plus new child boards for each District.

It is under the ATA category between Ask a Director and Chapter News and Events.

http://arkansastrappers.org/forum/index.php?board=47.0

The front page is getting pretty long now. FYI you can collapse a board category by clicking the minus sign (-) next to the category name.
